Coimbatore: Despite highlighting their plight to all concerned departments, MLAs and MPs to increase the height of the cause way in their Village which connects their village to several other villages, the residents of Kandhavayal village in Mettupalayam have lost faith in the administration and are risking their lives by traveling in coracles amidst the flooding bhavani river.

The villages of Kandhavayal, Allur and Uliyur and Lingapuram have been using coracles in 40-feet depth of water flooding from bhavani river.

"To transport essentials like vegetables, milk, wooden logs and other materials, we have been using coracles to travel. As the cause way has submerged in the water, we are unable to walk or use vehicles to transport the essentials. Everytime when there is flooding in bhavani river, the bridge submerges in water and affects our connectivity", lamented the villagers who allege that no officials have responded to their plea.

Women and children are also using coracles to travel to schools and work places which could turn disastrous, if the flooding increases in the river.

The cause way which is 30 feet from the river is now submerged with 5 feet of water above the bridge. With no connectivity, the villagers of Kandhavayal have made coracles as their mode of transport.
